Chemical Peels

A chemical peel uses a chemical solution to smooth the texture of your skin by removing the damaged outer layers. Although chemical peels are used mostly on the face, they can also be used to improve the skin on your neck and hands. A chemical peel is one of the least invasive ways to improve the appearance of your skin. Sun exposure, acne, or just getting older can leave your skin tone uneven, wrinkled, spotted or scarred.

A chemical peel can help improve:

  1. Acne or acne scars
  2. Age and liver spots
  3. Fine lines and wrinkles
  4. Freckles
  5. Irregular skin pigmentation
  6. Rough skin and scaly patches
  7. Scars
  8. Sun-damaged skin

Fillers

Dermal fillers, such as JUVÉDERM® are safe non-allergenic substances that are injected just below the surface of the skin to fill in lines, wrinkles, and scars or gently lift and enhance structure adding contour. These are referred to as “Volumizers”. These fillers consist of hyaluronic acid – a gel consistency, that hydrates readily with water – and looks beautiful in the skin when injected by a skilled physician.

Because of dermal filler’s safe ingredients, they require no pre-testing, but it’s a good idea to avoid using aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, St. John’s Wort, and high doses of Vitamin E prior to treatment because these may increase the likelihood of light bleeding and bruising at the injection site.

Makeup may be applied immediately after dermal filler injection, and is often done in the prior to the clients departure.

Stanford University study reveals ForeverYoung BBL can restore gene expression of aged human skin to resemble much younger skin.

Scientific evidence demonstrates regular maintenance treatments using ForeverYoung BBL™ can restore gene expression pattern of aged human skin to resemble young skin. Results of a Stanford University study published in the Wall Street Journal reveal over 1,000 gene expressions became “rejuvenated” to be more like youthful skin resulting in decreased elastosis and more uniform collagen deposition; leading to improvements in fine wrinkles and pigmentation.

Treatable Conditions

Facial Veins

WHAT IT IS: Facial veins, also known as spider veins, telangiectasias, spider angiomas, and benign vascular lesions, are actually dilated blood vessels. They are usually found on the forehead, nose, cheeks, eyelids, neck, and upper chest. Blood vessel dilation is due to weakening of the elastic fibers in the walls of the blood vessel. Although the exact mechanisms leading to blood vessel dilation are not understood, visible veins are associated with excessive sun exposure, normal aging, steroid use, liver disease, genetics, radiation therapy, and trauma. On the face, visible veins can be fine-the diameter of a hair shaft or larger and darker blue color.

Fine Lines & Wrinkles

WHAT IT IS: A wrinkle, also known as a rhytide, is a fold, ridge or crease in the skin. There are a few different types of wrinkles: dynamic wrinkles, static wrinkles, and wrinkle folds. With age, skin cells divide more slowly, and the skin’s inner layer, called the dermis, begins to thin. That starts to undo skin’s stretchiness and structure. Aging skin also starts to lose its ability to hold on to moisture, makes less oil, and is slower to heal. That all contributes to the wrinkling process. Although genetics mainly determine skin structure and texture, sun exposure is a major cause of wrinkles, especially for fair-skinned people. Other factors, such as pollutants and smoking, also contribute to wrinkling.

Premature Skin Aging

WHAT IT IS: Many things cause our skin to age. Some things we cannot do anything about; others we can influence. One thing that we cannot change is the natural aging process. It plays a key role. With time, we all get visible lines on our face. It is natural for our face to lose some of its youthful fullness. We notice our skin becoming thinner and drier. Our genes largely control when these changes occur. The medical term for this type of aging is “intrinsic aging.” – AAD

Although new research has shown that BBL™ BroadBand Light can delay the aging process. Include skin care products from South Texas Dermatology and some lifestyle changes and you will begin to reverse the aging process.

Sun Spots/Hyper Pigmentation

Hyperpigmentation disorders of the skin are common. Three of the more common forms include melasma, lentigines, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. – MedScape

WHAT IT IS: Hyperpigmentation is a common, usually harmless condition in which patches of skin become darker in color than the normal surrounding skin. This darkening occurs when an excess of melanin, the brown pigment that produces normal skin color, forms deposits in the skin. Hyperpigmentation can affect the skin color of people of any race. Age or “liver” spots are a common form of hyperpigmentation. They occur due to sun damage, and are referred to by doctors as solar lentigines. These small, darkened patches are usually found on the hands and face or other areas frequently exposed to the sun. Changes in skin color can result from outside causes. For example, skin diseases such as acne may leave dark spots after the condition clears. Other causes of dark spots are injuries to the skin, including some surgeries. Freckles are small brown spots that can appear anywhere on the body, but are most common on the face and arms. Freckles are an inherited characteristic. Freckles, age spots, and other darkened skin patches can become darker or more pronounced when skin is exposed to the sun. This happens because melanin absorbs the energy of the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays in order to protect he skin from overexposure.

Unwanted Hair

WHAT IT IS: Many people have unwanted hair. It’s common on the upper lip, chin, cheeks, back, legs, fingers, feet, and toes. It can have many causes, including genetics, certain medications such as steroids, higher levels of certain hormones, and polycystic ovarian syndrome. Laser and Advanced Light Technology, like BBL™ BroadBand Light has allowed us to, in many cases, remove the majority of hair on desired areas of the body.
The most common areas treated are:
• Underarms
• Bikini
• Legs
• Back
• Chest
